Well, y’all, 2016 is preparing to close her doors. If I could paint a picture of this year, I wouldn’t know where to start. When we launched our newest department, this amazing floral and events department, on May 2, I had no idea the direction it would take.
In 7 months time we have grown in ways I couldn’t imagine!
In May and June, we began crafting. Our parent company, Lanson B. Jones + Company, has designed some of Houston’s most beautiful gardens in some of the most amazing neighborhoods. And with our clients’ ample support, we were able to style our tablescapes in their stunning spaces. So as we worked with the ever gracious Swift + Company and their breathtaking rentals, we began to give a vision to this newly minted department. We slowly started designing a website, procuring products for our curated boutique, and tapping the vendors, designers, artisans, and supporters that would breathe life into our little Pink House.
And just like that, summer passed us by. We were on our way … and that way led us to the immensely talented ladies at Two Be Wed.
With the immensely talented Maya Hisse at the helm of this incredible shoot at Huntsville state park, we were able to make new “friend”-ors like Brooke Schwab, Nib & Pixel, Cakewalk Films, and Hey Lovely Makeup. And it led us to our first piece of published work on 100 Layer Cake – a blog we’ve regularly read for years. Yeah, we were walking on a cloud 9 … oh wait, we haven’t stepped off yet!
And then came October …
We traveled to Brenham with Paula Growden of Beau Tied Events to dress Allison and Michael’s luxe grey linens with hand-laid greenery runners, wine colored stems in gold compotes, 80 gold vintage bud vases (each styled in it’s own unique way), and stunning ethereal candlesticks. But what put our work to shame was a view that stretched what seemed like a million miles! Heather Curiel captured each detail to utter perfection.
On to Angleton to not only help design the florals, but plan the big day for Sydney and Spencer. Sweet pinks, fluttery ivory stems and ample verdant greens played on each table. And gorgeous blush La Tavola linens jazzed up our cake table and our sweetheart table. Oh my gosh, it may have been Indian summer, but Rachel Taylor of RaeTay Photography made it look like a cool fall day … oh yeah, and this couple is gorgeous … that helps too!
Sarah and Braeden closed out our October with their golden wedding in Hempstead. Muted roses and silvery greens styled this intimate wedding of just immediate family. It was so stunning, and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer more in love pair.
Three stunning, unique and over-the-top-gorgeous weddings in our first months of inception was a blessing that I for one am still excited over. And our calendars are flooding with bookings for those 2017 clients now. Yeah … we’re living the dream!
And along the way we were able to partner with some of Houston’s finest!
We partnered with Baanou, Modern Luxury Weddings Houston, and Everything But the Ring to execute a gorgeous intimate bridal event. Styling 4 unique bouquets, brides to be were able to use our bouquets to determine if they were a traditional, bohemian, colorful, or earthy bride. We had the best time! And Giverny Weddings snapped some stellar shots!
Then that talented Lindsey Rose King tapped us to style one of her 5 feature barcarts at the Mostess launch party at the end of October. C.Wright Photography blew our minds with her gorgeous, softly lit snapshots, and we were so happy to be standing along such stylists as Toast from the Host, Renovate Houston, For Love and Lettering, Shop the Manor, Wink by Erica, and Jack Rudy Cocktail – all in the gorgeous event space at 2929 Weslyan!
And if you haven’t attended an event with Aces of Taste, you’re missing out! After I personally attended an event they put on at Baanou in River Oaks District, we partnered up for two private dinners they hosted where we were able to create hanging floral installations. A huge challenge, but a huge reward!
Come mid-November, our jaws dropped when the famous Marie Flanigan asked us to provide floral arrangements for her Thanksgiving spread featured on their website. Her vision married so perfectly with our’s from gardens to floral, so we were just tickled pink!
Halfmoon Lettering has been an amazing print materials partner for us, and working with her to style stems in her vintage bottles and inkwells for a calligraphy class she hosted at Tiny’s No. 5 was such a fun, chilly November morning activity! We can’t thank Rachel over there for all she’s done to help us!
Culiminating our whirlwind (half) year, we were among an A-list group of florists including Bramble and Bee, Flower Vibes, Flower Power, and Heights Flower Shop to style a home at the Heights Holiday Home Tour. We worked with the gracious Arnold family to bring some holiday cheer to their Christmas cottage. Read more about that here.
And have y’all seen our Holiday Guide?!
This year we published our first official holiday catalog. Working with the talented Caroline Fontenot, the gracious Halfmoon Lettering, and the stylish Swift + Company, we were able to work in one of our client’s stylish homes to deliver a truly stellar product! If you are still looking to receive a hard copy, please email firstname.lastname@example.org … and keep and eye peeled for our next issue!
Just reliving it all is a thrill to say the least, and this department of Lanson B. Jones + Company hasn’t even turned 1 year old yet! As we look ahead, we see our calendar full of weddings, weekly and monthly floral deliveries, corporate and private dinner parties and designing stunning centerpieces for our landscape design clients. We couldn’t be more thrilled! We couldn’t have done this without all of you to support us and foster our growth as we become rooted in this community and beyond!
